This a unique vintage jewelry box, made in India. A large style with intricate details of flowers and scroll like edges with fold over clasp and swivel handles. These types boxes imported from India became extremely popular in the 70s-80s because of the technique used, in which sheets of brass were attached to a wood structure. The thin sheets allowed manipulating the brass in order to achieve the intricate designs. Inside is lined with red fabric very similar to velvet. The latch, curvy feet and handles are solid brass. Condition is Excellent - I gave this a light cleaning with a damp cloth, but did not remove any patina. This is just a gorgeous box which could also be used for items other than jewelry.
